Get ready to let Google control your Smart Home

If you’re subscribed to the Google Home mailing list you may have already received news this morning about the launch of Google Home Mini. It’s now available for pre-order at a cost of only $79, which is of course suspiciously close to Amazon’s Echo Dot which has yet to arrive in Australia.

At this price point, and with a small size and clean design, you’ll be tempted to place one device in every room. And that is exactly what smart home owners have already been doing with the competitor Echo Dot. Put one in the hallway and garage, and you can simply tell it to turn off the lights when you leave home. One in the living room to control your lights and set the mood for movie night. And so on. We imported a few at the beginning of this year and have been using them to control most if not all our smart home devices since then. That includes lights, air conditioning, heaters, fans and even a popcorn machine!

Google Home integration is currently in final stages of beta testing with our home automation systems. We expect to have full compatibility within a month.

The beauty of Amazon’s Alexa enabled devices is of course that they are fully compatible with Wirefree smart homes. However, they are unfortunately not yet available for sale in Australia, and customers have had to rely on parallel imports if they wanted this functionality. Now here is some good news: Google Home integration is currently in final stages of beta testing with our home automation systems! We expect to have full compatibility with all Google Home products within a month, including the original speaker and the Mini which was just launched.
