Woollahra Smart Home

Wirefree recently completed a smart home project in Woollahra, located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The brief required automation of all internal and external lighting, as well as entry points including the front door and a garage roller door. In addition, security cameras were installed and included into a single user interface. The system was complimented with Amazon Echo Dot’s to let the owner control her smart home using the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

Smart Lighting

Fibaro Dimmers and Double Switches allow lights to be activated automatically when motion is detected after dark, thanks to Fibaro multi-sensors. The in-wall installation ensures the home owner retains the look and functionality of existing switches. The installation for 14 separate light circuits took less than a day to complete.

Bathrooms

Lights were set to dim to 30% between 11PM and 6AM and activated by a motion detector. Bathroom fans automatically turn on and off based on programmed settings.

Smart Locks and Gates

Lockwood Digital Deadbolt was installed on the front door. The existing Merlin roller door motor was fitted with a z-wave transmitter and included in the smart home system. The owner is now alerted if the garage door is left open, and can also monitor the backyard using a 4MP Hikvision IP camera. A simple press on the smartphone opens and closes the roller door.

Voice Assistant

Although the Amazon Alexa products are not yet available in Australia, Wirefree has carried out extensive pre-launch testing and was able to set up voice control with Alexa for this project. All smart lighting was included to enable commands such as “Alexa, turn on the kitchen downlights”.
